Barred from RiverRock Casino in BC - Question - What would you do?
I went in yesterday to play poker 20-40 at the RiverRock Casino, I've been there several times (according to my stats I've been there just under 80 times since they last opened in the summer of '04). I often visit RiverRock once every 2 wks - since I often play online mostly. And if I were to go I would only play there 20-40 game.
Yesterday as I was waiting for a seat for about 20 mins, the PokerRoom manager came up to me and pulled me a side and told me that they want $700 from me because they overpaid me. I immediately told him "you must've the wrong guy since I rarely even play here!" And he said nope, let me check again.
So he comes back like 5 mins later and explains to me that when I went to cashout they had paid me $1818 CAD and it was +$700 increase. Remember this was 1 month ago, I did not rememeber getting overpaid - I seriously DO NOT REMEMBER that, because if I had remembered I would've mentioned it to my friend who I had gotten a ride from ...
I looked at my notepad (which I bring with me)to keep track of buyin, cashout and session/limit time played. It clearly states that I was there at the time; however on my notepad it says I bought in for a total of $1200 and cashed out a total of $1618.
The Poker Boss and Acting Assistant Manager at the casino told me they have me brining in chips of $1118, and they accidentally giving me $1818. And wants me to pay $700 back or else I am barred from the RiverRock Casino.
I do not remember getting overpaid; if I were overpaid it would only be $418 since I always buyin for $1200 (30 bigbets for a 20-40 gm) and in my notes (notepad and Pokercharts.com) i logged on as a $1618 cashout.
The PokerBoss brought up a good point, and that is they wouldn't be asking me to pay them back if it wasn't a mistake.
I did not like how I was being interegated; they tried to negotiate with me by saying that I could pay portions back every week. I told them I wanted to see the VIDEO TAPE - since it is their "supposed" fault, and I would like to pay them back after viewing it myself.
The Poker Boss and Assistant Manager at the casino said they CANNOT and WILL NOT allow me to see it. I had visited the poker room 3 other times between Feb 11 and March 11...and they had not come up to me...Until yesterday when I was waiting.
I was treated like a criminal, the players were looking at me as two other security guarads were standing like 5 ft away from me as if I had done something wrong. I did NOT raise my voice at all, and I told them that I would like to see the video because $700 is a lot and I HONESTLY do not remember winning $700 profit that day or getting overpaid.
The Poker Boss told me it happens all the time if the cashier make the mistake and that the player will pay it back. I asked the Acting Manager what would she do in my position with no evidence and a 1 month history. She immediately said "I would pay it back right away" - You're right! $700???? I said "Give me a break"....and this was the best part, she had the audacity to say, "What goes around comes around"
What should I have done in this situation?
They gave me the option to pay it back, or pay it back in portions or I will get barred. After being treated like a criminal I did not know what to do but had left the casino. I sure wasn't going to give $700 when I didn't even make a profit that night according to my notepad.
She said I could take it to the BC Lottery Commission, but until then I wasn't allowed to play there unless I paid it or make a negotiation with them for payment.
What would you do in my situation? I rarely go to the casino, but I do play once every 2 wks just for 20-40 limit.
I guess I'll have to play online now.
I asked 3 other buddies of mine, and they said that they would NOT pay until they saw the video / surveylience. One of my buddy said that "this was the same casino that made a 2-4 player pay them (casino) back $40 when they overpaid him too"
I was really disgusted by this situation, and would like to play there BUT I do NOT remember getting OVERPAID! They checked the camera a few times and said they are 100% sure they overpaid me but I might not have noticed because I was talking to someone else when I was cashing out at the window.
QUESTION:
WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
WHAT DO OTHER CASINOS DO WHEN THERE IS OVERPAYMENT?
Is this casino in RiverRock Richmond BC just different? Would other casinos do the same thing?
I was really humuliated as other players looked at me as if I cheated them or something.
